Emily Rapport, Painting
I studied painting at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York from 1994 - 1995 and received my BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2005.
I am particularly interested in scenes/moments that reflect our daily experience. Painters like Reginald Marsh, George Bellows, George Luks - have always been of interest to me for their depiction of American life and their ability to plant a narrative in the mind of the viewer.
I draw subjects from what I see every day - fast food restaurants and El tracks, ordinary people and activities. In general, I take my own photographs and base the paintings on one or more scenes.
I am also a freelance designer/artist at Eat Paint Studio and am currently working on new paintings and design projects. Recent projects include the poster art and design for the 9th annual Ravenswood ArtWalk, Tour of Arts & Industry.
