Jeff Bryner, Painting
Having lived in numerous areas around the country and world, I have been privy to the beauty you can find by looking through portals. Some of my work is taken from my view through windows, doorways, arches and other natural and man made gateways to the outside and inside world. Some of the paintings I have created have been seen through the lens of a camera and captured on film prior to making their way to the canvas.
I have always been fascinated with sunrises and sunsets whether they be seen off the coast of Italy, viewed from the beach in Belize or from the porch of my own backyard. The colors nature brings in the few minutes that the sun appears or disappears are obvious in most of my work and a lot of my work deals with nature, the colors in nature and an abstraction from nature. The sun itself plays key in many pieces I have created.
Chicago has provided me with a canvas of portals, sunsets, and colors not always visible or easily obvious to anyone other than myself. A waterfall off the sidewalk, clustered berries on a branch, the diverse colors of Lake Michigan have given me inspiration to create pieces of artwork but still enabling me to see it as I see it through my own personal portals, my eyes.
