“Chicago Artists Month 2012 celebrates the city’s art and artists as essential building blocks in the development of vibrant and livable neighborhoods that connect to make Chicago a world class creative city.
This year’s theme, Art Block by Block, explores the impact of Chicago-based artists on the city’s neighborhoods. Inspired by the cultural planning process and its focus on engaging creatives in every community, Chicago Artists Month 2012 will examine how visual artists enhance Chicago’s cultural landscape and make each neighborhood unique. Chicago’s artists are active citizens: contributing to civic dialogue; strengthening the fabric of our neighborhoods; inspiring conversations that address the concerns of our communities.”
Celebrating 26 years in operation, the Cornelia Arts Building is one of the largest all-artist-studio buildings on Chicago’s Northside and is a hub of creative practices.
Over 40 local artists and artisans work in this former ice-house, including sculptors, painters, photographers, ceramic artists, print-makers, jewelry designers, textile artisans, and more. Visit these working artist studios during this fun evening event featuring Chicago made paintings, photography, jewelry, sculpture, tile murals, prints, drawings, textiles, ceramics, and other unique gifts. Come see what the building residents have been creating on two full floors of working artist studios. Also on view: special hallway guest artist exhibitions.
The Cornelia Arts Building straddles the border of three distinct Chicago Neighborhoods; Lakeview, Roscoe Village, and Ravenswood/North Center. Get Directions here.
